Algebra Rising | Grades 3-5; Year 4-6 +

The confidence and success your child is ready for.

Because you know your child can do this, and you want them to know it too.
Foundations is our elementary pathway for students in Grades 3 through 5. Your child works with an expert mentor who learns how they think, honors their brilliance, and builds the mathematical confidence and success that carries them into every year that follows.

Why families choose Foundations

Every child arrives differently.

Foundations meets your child where they are — whether they're finding their footing, ready for more, or somewhere in between.

"My child is brilliant — but math is starting to feel like a struggle."

Their curiosity is still there. But you can see the doubt creeping in. You want them to keep loving mathematics — and you know the window for that is right now.

"My child is ready for more than the classroom is offering."

They finish the work quickly and ask for harder problems at dinner. You want them working with someone who will meet them where their thinking actually is — not where the grade level says they should be.

"My child is doing fine — but I want them to know they belong in mathematics."

You've seen what happens when math gets hard in middle school. You want your child to arrive there knowing — really knowing — that mathematics is a place they belong.

What your child will build

Four things every Foundations student takes with them.

Not a curriculum. A set of durable capabilities that shape everything mathematical that comes after.

One

Fluency they can rely on.

The operations, patterns, and reasoning that make everything after this feel possible — built to depth, not just to the test.

Two

A confidence that leans in.

The persistence to sit with a hard problem. The willingness to try. The confidence to speak up when something doesn't make sense yet.

Three

An unshakable belief in their own brilliance.

The belief that math is something they do brilliantly — backed by evidence they've built themselves, session by session.

Four

A relationship with their mentor.

An adult who knows how they think, celebrates how they've grown, and stays with them across the long arc of the journey.

How Foundations works

How we get to know your child.

There is no intake form and no obligation until we both know this is the right fit.

1

We listen first.

A conversation about your child, what's working, what isn't, and what you're hoping for.

2

We meet them where they are.

Gentle, thorough assessment. We look for what's underneath, not just what's on the surface.

3

We build the plan.

A personalized learning plan designed around how your child thinks and where they're headed.

4

We stay with them.

Consistent, purposeful mentorship. You'll always know where your child is in the journey.

Every child deserves someone who sees their mathematical potential — and knows exactly how to unlock it.

Dr. Lou Matthews founded InspireMath Academy on a single belief — that every child arrives mathematically gifted. With over two decades of experience and a PhD in Mathematics Education from Illinois State University, he has built a model of instruction that is rigorous, deeply relational, and designed around how each student actually thinks. He has spoken at the White House on humanity in STEM and authored two published books on mathematics education. Every InspireMath coach is selected and led by Dr. Lou personally.
